April News

Happy spring everyone! Hopefully we have seen the end of the snow but somehow I don't think we we will be quite so lucky. Please remember that your child needs a pair of indoor shoes at school and a pair of running shoes for gym. Especially as the rain rolls in during the months of April and May.

Here is some of what is coming up in April.

April 24th - We will be joining several other classes on a trip to see the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. We will be taking two parent volunteers on this trip with our class. The volunteers have been confirmed.

Language

Our language focus this month will be integrated with social studies. The students are learning to do research, write jot notes based on their research and turn their jot notes into full sentences to communicate their ideas. We have started a new read aloud novel study: Akimbo and the Elephants by Alexander McCall Smith. The students are really enjoying the book and they are taking great care when working on the novel study.

Last month our class performed 5 readers theatre plays to the other grade two classes. They all worked very hard and I was very proud of the way the plays turned out. Some children even memorized their parts which was not an easy task.

Math

In math we are nearing the end of our money unit. There are many great IXL activities related to money, so please ensure that your child keeps up with their IXL assignments. Our next unit will focus
on mass and capacity.

Social Studies

We are continuing with our inquiry projects throughout the month. Please refer to the email I sent on Friday for more detailed information about our progress to date. Just a reminder that colour photos are due on Tuesday as we will be starting to work on our presentation boards this week. You are invited to view your child's inquiry project, and many others, at our Community Inquiry Night on Thursday April 20th. More information will be coming to you soon.

As always, thank you again for your continues support with your child's learning. The students and I looking forward to sharing what we have learned at the LKS Inquiry night!
